As a matter of fact, I think I'll dedicate the month of October to Titanic era/WWI era fashion. That should please fellow Downton Addicts.
Isn't that pink pinafore just darling??? I'd also take her hat and shawl as well.
One of each please? Maybe in every color as well.
Egad, I have no idea which to choose, so I'll take them all.
I think a lot of early Edwardian fashion was quite exquisite and extremely glamorous, but I am more drawn to the WWI era style the most. With the boyish cuts and the ability to actually do chores and sports shown in this add. The roomier blouses and a-line skirts were made for the average woman. As much as I would love to wear a elegant gown to dinner every evening, the Downton way of life just isn't realistic.
Just like in WWII, there was fabric rationing in WWI. Separates were wonderful in a ladies wardrobe.
I am in love with that brown number on the end. I love the simplicity of the garment as well as the dark color. Women of pooer-middle class would probably wear this without worry of stains showing as much as it would on that pretty light blue frock next to it.
And you thought women started wearing pants only in the 20s, so did I and I was wrong. Here we see a cute add for overalls and coveralls for women during the war who actually worked. Maybe as a land girl or in a factory. Either way they were quite cute and very functional.
